Jonathan David included on Tottenham Hotspur striker transfer shortlist

Tottenham Hotspur are actively seeking to bolster their squad this summer with Jonathan David is among others on the shortlist for a potential striker transfer. Meanwhile, Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is reportedly not included in their considerations.

In May, manager Ange Postecoglou told football.london that Spurs are aiming to strengthen their attacking options. It is understood that Spurs have been linked with a move for several strikers across Europe in recent months. Notably, they continue to find options to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich last summer.

“Yeah, absolutely. It’s no secret [we need new attacking players]. You saw the way we finished the season. We obviously lost Richy (Richarlison) and Timo [Werner] as well with injuries but we’re fairly light in that area. We started last season with Manor [Solomon] and [Ivan] Perisic and we were quite healthy in that front third in terms of numbers, but as the year went on it became pretty evident that we need to bulk up. We’re in Europe as well next year so we’ll have more games and it’s definitely an area of the park we’ll need to strengthen,” Postecoglou said.

Tottenham Hotspur makes shortlist of forwards for present and future signings

According to football.london, Spurs created a shortlist of young forwards whom they can sign for the present and long-term prospects. One of the prominent names in that list is Lille striker Jonathan David, whom the club has been monitoring for a considerable period. The 24-year-old Canadian international scored 26 goals in 47 appearances this season for Lille.

The other names on the shortlist have been compiled by technical director Johan Lange and chief scout Rob Mackenzie. Notably, their selections are aligned with head coach Postecoglou’s specific requirements.

Despite often being linked with Spurs, Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is not included on the shortlist. The Mexican striker netted 23 goals this season. He was seen at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium attending a game last season, allegedly as a guest. Additionally, Spurs insiders have clarified that they are not considering the signing of Brentford striker Ivan Toney at this stage of the transfer window.
