Football enthusiasts in Malabar, Kerala, feel disappointed because of the non-telecast of Copa America as they miss out on watching their favorite teams. Kerala’s deep-rooted love for football is widely recognized within the state and beyond. Additionally, this setback only serves to intensify and reignite their already fervent passion for the sport.
Amidst the non-telecast of the competition, a fan group in Kerala sought help from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Nainamvalappu Football Fans Association (NFFA) from Kozhikode, Kerala, has appealed directly to PM Modi. They’ve requested PM to instruct public broadcaster Prasar Bharati or other sports channels to broadcast the event live in India.
“As you are aware, football is the world’s largest and most popular game and it has millions of fans in India alone. As far as football fans are concerned, the Copa America championship is one of the favourite football tournaments in the world,” NFFA president NV Subair wrote in his letter to the PM.

Football enthusiasts in Malappuram have also expressed their dismay at being unable to watch their favourite South American teams. Notably, the fan groups are now actively seeking alternative ways to view the football event. The ongoing championship got underway in the United States, from June 20 to July 14.
“We waited eagerly for the tournament to begin. It is disappointing that none of the channels are telecasting the tournament in India and no streaming platforms have shown interest either,” said Uppoodan Shoukath, convenor of Football Lovers Forum, Malappuram.
