Cole Palmer breaks Premier League record, nets four elusive first-half goals against Brighton

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer delivered a stunning performance, scoring four goals in the first half of Chelsea’s 4-2 triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday. This feat made Palmer the first player in Premier League history to score four goals before halftime in a match. The 22-year-old showcased his brilliance in a devastating 20-minute stretch, finding the back of the net in the 21st, 28th, 31st, and 41st minutes.

Speaking about his performance, Palmer was reflective and humble, despite his incredible display. “I should have had five or six [goals],” Palmer admitted to the BBC. “When I missed the first chance, I was upset, but with the way they played and their high line, I felt we’d get more chances.

Maresca Praises Palmer’s Hunger and Humility

Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, echoed Palmer’s sentiments but couldn’t hide his admiration for the young forward. “He scored four, but he also could have scored two or three more,” Maresca said. “It’s important he stays hungry and ambitious. I’ve known him from many years ago, and he’s remained the same humble guy. For me, that’s the most important thing.”

Maresca also lauded Palmer’s consistency and character. “He’s a top player, and young players can change quickly in today’s football. Cole scores goals but never changes who he is, and that’s special. He’s a simple, humble guy who doesn’t need to tell people how good he is — you can just see it.”

Palmer’s impact has been remarkable since his move to Chelsea from Manchester City in 2023. With this latest display, he joined Chelsea legends Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as one of only four players to score at least three Premier League hat tricks for the club.

While the second half of the game against Brighton was more subdued, Chelsea held onto their lead to secure their fourth league win of the season. Palmer has now scored six goals in the first six Premier League matches, further cementing his place as one of the league’s most exciting young talents.
